Three years ago our neighbours came up with an idea to have an art show in our back lane. The Island people are so talented and there are so many creatives around. Our neighbourhood is no different. I was excited to join and was curious how it's gonna go. My expectations were passed by a mile.
The weekend was hot and busy and absolutely fantastic.
When the first show in 2022 turned out to be a big success, we decided to make the event annual.
Thank you
Events like this take lots of work to make it happen, and we are lucky to have Marie and Jim, who are the founders and organizers of our Annual Laneway Art Show.
I would like to give them a big shout out for all the work and time they put into it. As you can see in the picture, Jim and Marie are creating some incredible glass art pieces from bigger sculptures to small Christmas ornaments.
Their imagination, talent and skills is incredible and I love how they play with colours.
Celebrating Community and Talent
The show is always on the long weekend in August on Saturday and Sunday.
Artists, crafters and authors show their work in their yards and some in the woodlot in our back lane. You can find different media paintings, glass artwork, ceramic, wool art, books, jewelry and more.
Meet Maureen, my art show buddy
I was very lucky to have this opportunity to share my portrait photography in my garden. This year I had a friend artist to join me. Maureen lives just across the street from us and she is an amazing artist. She uses a special technique to treat leaves and petals to create gorgeous and unusual art. Her skills, imagination and patience are truly remarkable. At the end of the show we traded our work and I couldn't be happier to have one of her pieces on my wall. The spot is perfect and I absolutely love it. Thank you Maureen!
New Greeting Cards
Last year I introduced a line of greeting cards to add to my display. It was the first time I showed them in public and I was mostly curious about the feedback. By the end of the show we had over 100 cards sold. (I also met new customers and booked a few portrait sessions that weekend).
Because of the success from last year I decided to start selling my cards. I added a few new ones and a Christmas collection. That decision led to more creating and working as I decided to make stands for the cards. My man and I made the brand new stands to better display the whole collection. (Actually, we planned to make stands but we ended up with a kitty house!)
This year didn't disappoint and we had so many people coming. I had an opportunity to say hi to my clients who always stop by to check it out and catch up, and meet new people either locals or tourists visiting our beautiful town. I also had to say hi and cuddle many four legged visitor and I even met a wonderful Canadian woman who lives in Czech Republic. We had so much to talk about.
Portrait Photoshoot Contest
Not only I added the card display this year but I also came up with a contest to win a portrait session. I couldn't believe that at the end of the show there were 76 entries! Right after the show I drew a winner. The winner of the contest is Barb S. who lives locally. At this time we already had two meetings and are planning the date of the shoot. I can't wait to share Barbs photos with you.
As you can see I look in the pictures pretty tired... because I was! The weekend was hot and busy and absolutely fantastic. I am so grateful to Jim and Marie for organizing this, to everyone involved and mostly to all the wonderful people who came to visit us, look at our art and support the locals.
I hope to see you next year at the same time at the same place. Until then... have a wonderful year.
